WordPress acquired WP.com
Big Brands want small domain names.In this race now comapny behind WordPress , Automattic, has joined.They wanted to have WP.com for their famous blogging software wordpress ,which is usually on domain name wordpress.com
So now WP.com will redirect you to WordPress.com.

Hope this new domain will shorten WordPress in wp , which is usually spoken for wordpress. wp plugins , wp themes so now WP domain.
