My last post in Digital India was regarding having an advanced Unique ID based vehicle registration system & implementation of RFID to each vehicle. Thinking one step ahead, lets use assigned RFID in solving traffic jam issues.
On a busy toll highway long queue may waste a lot of time & money of persons for whom time is equal to money. Waiting for a minute for something may make them loose a lot. Yes, I am talking about business personas and political leaders.
If such a person is struck in long toll queue, you can imagine the situation. One, who should be in office working for progress of India, is struck at tollbooth due to manual clearing system and problems raised because of that i.e. change problem, communication problem, dealing time etc..
Imagine how good will it be if no stopping required at tollbooth & still you are paying the toll. RFID based tollbooth system promises to implement the same. As I told so far we have tagged every vehicle with a unique RFID and also have linked them with their owner’s unique ID.
In RFID based clearing system as the RFID passes through any toll road, the owner will be charged automatically. The same system can be implemented in traffic penalty. For example, RFID readers at signal will compare time of passing of a car and signal stop. If a car have broken a signal the owner will be fined.
United States have similar system. There they have camera at signals. Penalty tickets are sent in email. But our goal is to take India ahead of all economies, lets think more advanced.
We have linked a vehicle with a unique ID. Now we will link a vehicle with bank account of owner. As the vehicle breaks a rule or passes through toll road his bank account will be debited at the same moment.
Data flow will be like: Vehicle RFID –> Owner Unique ID –> Bank ID –> Payment
Your bank statement will look like this:
| Date | Debit/Credit | Amount | Statement |
| 1/3/2012 | Debit | 80.00 | Toll Charge – Mumbai – Pune |
| 2/3/2012 | Debit | 50.00 | Speed Limit Break .Nr. Pune |
| 5/3/2012 | Credit | 2000.00 | NEFT Mr. Sharma |
| 7/3/2012 | Debit | 50.00 | Signal Break Nr. |
| 9/3/2012 | Debit | 1000.00 | Petrol Fill RFID – 54367 |
In next post we will focus on banking sector and see how security can be improved digitally. Hope you are ready to go on long drive without stop with RFID based toll clearing system !
