Android
Android is the latest mobile Operating System by Google. The OS is very promising and it rocked market in a few months of launch. Most of companies launching their new devices with the OS which includes big brands like LG, Samsung.
Base Station
Base Station is a station established for mobile communication. Many such stations are established in an area. Mobiles roam in an area changing base stations according to distance from it. In general base stations are the towers you see on buildings.
Camera
Camera started as an add-on of mobiles. Today it has become a major part of it, some companies release phones just for camera factor and the resolution has increased to 14 MP.
Dual Core
Dual Core processing technology is now moving to mobile devices. Recently launched LG Optimus 2X is dual core processing phone with Android OS.
EDGE
EDGE is a 2G technology to offer high-speed internet on mobiles. It promises up to 236.8 kbps speed.
Flash
Flash is provided in some mobiles to get pictures in dark. The flash is made up of LED and sometimes dual LED. The flash is directly mounted on motherboard of most of the phones.
GPRS
General Packet Radio Service GPRS is packet switching service that offers lower data rates than EDGE. It may offer up to 115 kbps data speed.
HPSDA
High-Speed Downlink Packet Access is the 3G technology protocol offering speeds up to 21 Mbps data speed. The third generation of mobile networks offers video calling.
IMEI
International Mobile Equipment Identity is a unique number assigned to each mobile. IMEI is helpful in detecting the mobile in case of stolen or criminal activity. Also, it helps in other internal operations at mobile company. Government of India banned mobiles without valid IMEI before two years.
Java
Java is the most famous platform for applications in non-OS phones. You can find many applications developed in J2ME with extension .jar
Kies
Samsung Kies is an application for data transfer in Samsung phones. The application is more popular because of Kies Air version. It creates a server in phone itself which can be accessed from anywhere in Wi-Fi network.
Location
MSC can track location of a cell phone very accurately. In better networks this accuracy is 10m. It helps trace a mobile. It is traced by tower connected and signal strength received.
MSC
Mobile Switching Center is core part of mobile communication. An MSC stays connected with many BSCs. Also, it stores user information like personal details, balance, etc.
N-Gage
N-Gage is series of gaming mobiles from Nokia. The devices are optimized for gaming and loaded with a few games by default. Such devices are Symbian OS based.
Operating System
Like computers mobiles also require an operating system to operate after all mobile is also a micro computer. Some examples of mobile OS are android, bada, symbian.
Projector
The next generation of mobiles will have in-built projectors. You can view pictures taken anywhere or start a PowerPoint presentation on need. Samsung is going to launch a few phones with projectors in a soon time.
Quad Band
In various geo locations GSM networks operate on different frequencies. 850/900/1800/1900 MHz are the frequencies. A quad band phone is a phone said to compatible with all the bands. If you are roaming around the world frequently you should get a quad band phone.
ROM
Read Only Memory is used to store firmware (operating software) of mobile phone. The chip memory is small.
SIM
Subscriber Identity Module is a chip to define customer in GSM. The chip contains unique encrypted code to define particular customer. It also contains security keys for the customer and memory to store other information, i.e. phone numbers, SMS, etc.
Tablet
Tablets are wide screen mobile devices used for surfing, desktop publishing, navigation, etc. Many brands are into competitive market of tablets. India launched cheapest tablet of world ‘Akash’ costing 35$.
UMTS
Universal Mobile Telecommunications Service is the third generation of mobile communication. It offers video calling and higher data transfer rates.
Vibrator
Vibrator is indicator upon any service alert. In most of the mobiles vibrator is a motor. The motor runs on an alert. The object connected at the end of motor is quiet heavy.
WCDMA
WCDMA is wide band CDMA technology. It is used to provide 3G networks. Signal transfer in 3G is done using WCDMA.
Xperia
Xperia is successful android phones series by sony ericsson.
